United States Bordeaux Corporation
A domestic registry for the Dogue de Bordeaux.
FCI
Federation Cynologique Internationale
The FCI is the governing body of registries around the world (with the exception of some countries such as the USA). Each country has its own registry (i.e. FCPR is Federation Canines Puerto Rico; LOF is Livre France; etc). You will be able to tell an FCI governed registry by their use of the official FCI seal on their paperwork. Only dogs born in FCI countries of FCI parents are registered FCI. Most imports are FCI registered. The FCI website can be found at www.fci.be.
Registration Status:
The AKC Foundation Stock Service (FSS) currently accepts the following registries for the Dogue de Bordeaux:
1) UKC (United Kennel Club)
2) USBC (United States Bordeaux Corp)
3) FCI - from the acceptable country list (see link) and must be an EXPORT pedigree from the dogs country of birth and in the new owners name. http://www.akc.org/rules/special_registry_services.cfm?page=5
The FSS does NOT accept the FIC (Federation of International Canines) as the primary registry for any dog or a dog within ones three generation pedigree.
When the Dogue de Bordeaux is admitted into the Misc. class, the above will still apply. Any dog that is issued an FSS number will be able to compete in Misc. class conformation events as well as companion events (obedience, agility, etc).
Once the Dogue de Bordeaux has attained full 100% AKC recognition and is moved into the Working Group, all dogs in the FSS database that have three generation pedigrees from approved registries (see acceptable registry list previously noted) will automatically be issued an AKC registration number and certificate.
** The FSS has approved the FCPR (Puerto Rico) as an acceptable registry only if listed within the three generation pedigree. Please note, they do not accept FCPR for the individual dog, as the primary registration, the dog must still be registered with one of the aforementioned acceptable registries – however they will accept it within that dogs three generation pedigree.
When the Dogue de Bordeaux is accepted for full AKC recognition, those Dogue de Bordeaux that do not have thee generations of approved registries (i.e. pedigrees including any FIC dogs) will remain in the FSS database indefinitely or until (if ever) a three generation pedigree of acceptable registries entirely, is achieved.
These dogs with the FSS numbers only may enter and compete in regular AKC companion events only. They are not eligible to compete in any AKC conformation events and any offspring produced by these dogs, will be ineligible for registration with the AKC and offered the same competitions, companion events only.
During the period that the Dogue de Bordeaux is in the Misc. class, it is imperative that all Dogue de Bordeaux in the US are registered directly with the FSS (if they are not already). Up until the time we are 100% AKC, they will accept the FCI, UKC and USBC papers on your dog for FSS registration. BUT when we do gain full recognition – these registries will no longer be accepted and only those foreign registries from the aforementioned link will apply. Any registration dilemmas may be addressed and possibly corrected up until the date of full AKC acceptance. There will be a page on the DDBS website outlining and citing examples of acceptable and unacceptable pedigrees. There is no definitive date for full AKC recognition once we are in the miscellaneous class, typically a breed can anticipate at least a year and no more than three with the misc. class.
The DDBS and AKC representatives will be available to answer your questions and concerns, as well as facilitate any problems that may arise.
Other Registries
The following registries are not recognized by the AKC or the DDBS. Use of these registries is not recommended in ANY capacity. The DDBS advises against purchasing Dogue de Bordeaux puppies or adults, or contracting with Studs who are registered with any of these registries. The AKC will not accept any of these registration bodies into the AKC FSS. The DDBS has been advising owners and breeders of the pending acceptance into AKC for many years and stressing the transfer of registration to AKC FSS.
